The Challenge
Challenge 1: The Phase II Environmental Investigation for the property identified heavy metal and hydrocarbon contamination on-site that would necessitate remediation and management during excavation. In order to discharge water from site, we aided the project team in obtaining an authorization from the City to discharge water to the storm sewer, following comprehensive treatment on-site.
Challenge 2: During final stages of excavation, significant groundwater was intercepted, halting excavation activity. A well-point dewatering system was required to be installed at the base of the excavation over the weekend to allow excavation activity to commence the following week. As the site was contaminated, Stormtec worked closely with the project consultants to employ an approach that remained in compliance with the site authorization.
Our Solution
- Pre-project submissions to obtain authorization from the City of Surrey
- Supply of water treatment system to meet stringent BC Water Quality Guidelines
- 50 point well-point system installed using drilling equipment already on-site
- Booster pump system to overcome head pressure at base of excavation
